our plans for moving 1,000+ miles during a pandemic

this week we are listing our home to sell! photographers come tomorrow (monday), we list thursday, and will hold an open house on saturday.

so that's....a lot of people in our home in a short amount of time.

we are hoping to be under contract quickly. once that happens, our plan is to move the first weekend of june. we'll hire movers to load up a truck here, and we'll have movers unload our truck in portland.

essentially, in the span of four weeks, we'll have a lot of interactions with a lot of humans. way more than we have over the last two months. while utah and oregon have done a somewhat decent job of keeping COVID-19 to a minimum, it's still a little scary.

here are five things we're doing to help protect ourselves:

  1. obviously request anyone coming into our home to wear a mask.
  2. wipe down all counters and doorknobs and light switches after people come into our home.
  3. all of our belongings we'll be loaded up into the moving truck the day before we leave. we'll then drive all day the next day and the truck will be unloaded by movers. we won't touch the boxes for 24 hours once they've been unloaded.
  4. we will do the drive in one day so we don't have to stay at an airbnb. we will unfortunately have to stop at gas stations, but hoping those types of stops are the only interactions we'll make during the drive.
  5. the home will get a full cleaning before we unpack everything. no one is living in the home we are moving into. so i'm actually not too worried about it. so glad no one is there right now! that's a huge blessing.
i'm trying to stay calm but also aware during this process. i want to be smart but not dramatic or full of anxiety. the timing of this move is not ideal. but we're going to take all the precautions we can to help make this a safe and productive move.
