lease signed, officially moving!

it's so surreal that we are officially moving to portland, oregon -- a city we have been dreaming about for oh so long.

as i had mentioned previously, we will rent for the first two years while we get to know the city and neighborhoods. the home we ended up choosing is a little different than what i thought we might end up with. originally i was thinking a townhome + new construction.

but we nailed down a 3 bedroom home with a basement (!!) and a BACKYARD (!!!!). the home is an (adorable) 'old portland' home that has been completely remodeled. what really sold us was the price, location, and the amazing backyard. we preferred signing a two year lease as we didn't want to have to move again in a year. because of a longer lease, the owner has given us permission to paint and replace light fixtures so long as we put the fixtures back when we move out. the fact that we could paint and make our own updates was what really convinced us to go with this house. it's not necessarily in bad shape, it just definitely needs some brighter walls and updated light fixtures.

fun fact: we haven't actually seen this place in person. due to coronavirus, we were unable to hop on a flight to see places in person. we facetimed with the owner and that was it! it sounds crazy, but our gut is telling us this is the place for us. needless to say, we are anxious to actually see our home will be living in for the next two years! :)

here are some before pics. i cannot wait to get my hands on this home and see what a few simple updates can do to this space!

ok, that backyard though... i meaaaan i can't wait to show august! and the hardwood floors! and that natural light and the wooden beam -- so so good!

so far my plans are to paint the kitchen and dining room area a bright white. all light fixtures will be replaced. i'm still playing with the idea of throwing in a fun or bold color on one of the walls. we'll see what happens.

we are feeling very blessed and grateful that we got this place as apparently there was a long wait list! and now we are counting down the days until we can call this place and city our new home! :)
